You may recognize this beautiful arched stone and concrete railway bridge while driving across the Powhite Bridge in Richmond, Virginia. Robbie Batt, a local photographer who shares my passion for preserving Southside Virginia structures and country scenes, captured this bridge, and when I saw his awesome photograph, I knew right away I wanted to capture it in a painting.
The double track bridge was built in 1919 and crosses the James River, drawing a lot of attention with its design and setting. In my painting of it, which I entitled On The James, I depict a kayaker because so many people enjoy kayaking on the James River.
