Tomato Wagon, by Linda W Clark is an oil painting on cotton canvas. The original, measuring 18 x 24 inches
I was inspired to paint tomatoes for the upcoming Hanover Tomato Festival in Mechanicsville, Va. What better way to display the harvest of tomatoes than in an old wooden wagon. A trip on the country dirt road to the fresh market is delayed while Daisy, the farm horse, stops to enjoy a delicious taste of her namesake from the rolling meadow scenery, and the little farmer boy, relaxing on the back of the wagon, dines on one of the juicy “Big Boy” tomatoes he has gathered for the fresh market. Baskets are overflowing with vine –ripened Hanover “Better Boys” and “Big Boys” sure to please Central Virginians during the hot summer months, as well as fill their pantry with jars of homemade tomato products for the coming winter.
